Ikebana (生け花, 活け花, "arranging flowers" or "making flowers alive") is the Japanese art of flower arrangement. These ikebana vases are simple, graceful, and elegant.

Ian Stainton (1958-) was born in Kendal, England and reared in Shap, England. He received his undergraduate art degree from Carlisle College, Cumbria, England, where he met one of his important mentors Peter Liddle, who was a painting instructor at Carlisle. The year of 1974 marks his first year in the medium. He would go onto work from several studios in Europe before migrating to the United States. He is primarily a functional artist, who works in stoneware and porcelain, as well as he has experimented with primitive firing techniques. Powerful functional forms with a superbly executed glaze arsenal make him a standout artist of the Modern Studio Movement
